Why I'm an Eclectic Homeschooler

I just finished a series of articles for the Examiner that really solidified for me why our homeschool style here is so eclectic.  I wrote about five great lessons to take from all different types of homeschooling, including Montessori, Waldorf, Charlotte Mason and Unschooling.  They are all parts of what we do here, and why I love the freedom we have as homeschool parents.  We truly can take the best of all worlds and adapt it all to perfectly suit each of our children.

If you want to check out the series, here it is so far…

  1. Just wanted to let you know how much I’ve enjoyed the series! We won’t be using any set curriculum and all of this is exactly what we have in mind – a bit of this and that – whatever we all feel inclined to do on any given day 🙂 I LOVE the flexibility of it all. Thanks again.

  2. All good options! And great together! It took me a year of trying many of the options, but in the end we found our way back to unschooling. It works best for us. It is great to have choices and that is the beauty of homeschooling. 🙂

  3. I have a hard time explaining what kind of HS’ers we are. I just say HS’er but…..we use a virtual school, we unschool, we use some Montessori, we love to read, we go to all kinds of cultural festivals and are very rarely ‘home’ for ‘school’ (which confuses a lot of people.)

If people ask, I just say eclectic since it covers everything!
